Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure commented the attack left him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
